Our Feature Project
Sleepwell Invests $4 million to Renovate over 40 Properties in Downtown Pembroke
Like any city, Pembroke has experienced its share of economic hardships over the years, but Sleepwell is making a significant investment to revitalize what was once the heart of the Ottawa Valley. Our investments in Pembroke began in 2012 with The Mews Mall and two multi-unit residential properties on Prince Street. In 2016, the company acquired an additional 40 residential and commercial properties, including those at 18 to 40 Pembroke St. W., 75 to 100 Pembroke St. W., 197 Albert St., 225 Victoria St., 239 Pembroke St. E., and 205 to 211 Church St. Sleepwell also purchased the old OPP Police Station and converted it to office space for lease.
In need of significant restoration and repair, many of these buildings were vacant – making the downtown core a less than desirable place to live and shop. Today Pembroke Street West is bustling with restaurants, bakeries, boutiques, yoga studios, and health and beauty shops. All of these businesses have been opened by local entrepreneurs and the community has been extremely supportive and enthusiastic. As part of the redevelopment, the existing apartments have been renovated with high end finishes including hardwood, quartz and upscale kitchens and are now leased to tenants who make downtown their home.
