Settling into Your New Home
When you find your perfect apartment through an Ottawa rental agency, you will want to settle into your new home as quickly as possible. Although it can be difficult at first, settling in can be much easier if you follow these simple tips:
Set-up Utilities and Services
Make sure you have set up all of your utilities and services before you move in. This way, you will have everything you need such as cable, internet and phone lines ready to go when you move in. Check with your landlord to see if you have to worry about things such as electricity, heat and water.
Ottawa rental agencies usually ensure that your apartment is cleaned prior to you moving in. However, you still want to run a vacuum over carpets and wash floors and surfaces before you begin to unpack and set up your furniture.
Make the Beds
After a long and tiring move, you will want to slide into a nice cozy bed. Make sure you have all your bedding easily available so that you can make all of the beds your first night. This will make it easier for kids to fall asleep and feel at home. It will also help you get your much needed rest to energize you for the rest of your unpacking.
Toiletries and Towels
Unpack all of your toiletries and organize your medicine cabinet and other storage units such as your vanity. This way you can get ready in the morning without stress. Look for towels and facecloths and make sure they are readily available for evening bath time or morning showers.
The kitchen will take a little more work. Tackle it on your first morning in your new apartment if you can. Decide where you want to store everything and see what extra room you might have to add new small appliances such as a coffee maker, microwave or even a toaster oven. Note anything you might need once you have unpacked everything and make plans to purchase these items when your budget allows.
Set up your rooms with clear pathways and space maximizing layouts. Live with it for a while and make changes if something doesn’t seem to work.
Once you complete these steps, you can add some finishing touches. Hang paintings and place photos of family and friends about the apartment. Add accessories to shelves and lay some area rugs. You will feel like you are home in just a few days.
