May in Ottawa
May is arguably one of the best months of the year, and that is no different here in Ottawa. May has beautiful weather; it’s not too hot and it’s finally not too cold. Most of spring’s mucky weather has dried up and summer is well on its way. May is also the month where the flowers start to bloom all over the city and when the outdoor patios start to come to life. Basically, May is fantastic. Here are a few things that you must do around Ottawa during the month of May.
Tour Parliament Hill
We are fortunate in Ottawa to have the magnificent and architecturally stunning Parliament buildings for our viewing pleasure. Either take the tour of the inside of the buildings, or simply take a stroll down by the water and marvel at the beauty from outside. With the beautiful May weather to guide you along the walking paths combined with the picturesque scenery, you may find yourself out walking for hours.
The Annual Tulip Festival
May is the month to revel in the blooming flowers and budding trees. Ottawa annually plays host to the tulip festival and this year will be no exception. With the Canada 150 celebrations going on all throughout the year, we can expect 2017 to be a fantastic display. Each year over 600,000 people come and view the colourful display and enjoy the scenic beauty throughout central Ottawa.
Get Your Bike Out
For those of you who are “fair weather bikers,” May is the fairest of them all! Pump up your tires and dust off your helmets because the National Capital Region has over 600 kilometres of designated bicycle paths that are open for riding. Some of these bike paths were open during the winter months, but the bulk are reserved for less intense weather.
Go to Lansdowne Park
The redesigned, revitalized Lansdowne Park is the place to be! Centrally located in the Glebe and also bordering the canal, Lansdowne Park is both easily accessible and extremely enjoyable for the whole family. With a movie theater, shopping, dining, and coffee spots, it’s easy to spend an entire day here. There is a small splash park for children to play in along with a wonderful grassy park area and play structure. Of course, front and centre in the park is TD Place where the Fury FC and the Ottawa Redblacks play along with the indoor rink where the Ottawa 67’s play. Lansdowne is truly the heart of Ottawa and a must-see location in the beautiful month of May.
If you live in Ottawa, then you truly understand how beautiful this city is and there is always more to discover! Do not let the warm months pass you by, get out and explore your great city.
