Clean That Fridge!
It’s easy to forget when was the last time you actually cleaned out the inside of your fridge. But there comes a time when we all must face the music. Whether you’re hosting a party, or you’re having your in-laws over for dinner for the first time, it’s something that has to be done.
So get your gloves on, get out that sponge, and follow these quick steps to get your fridge sparkling in no time.
First things first – you have to empty everything out. Trying to clean or wipe around certain objects just ends up being more time consuming, irritating, and will definitely get noticed by your in-laws. So do yourself a favour and start it off right. Empty your fridge out completely. Of course, now is the perfect time to throw out those half empty jars of expired salsa, or that unidentifiable green lump stuck to the back of the fridge.
Once you’ve emptied out all the contents, grab a sponge that has a sturdy scrubber and dip it into a mixed solution of vinegar and water (or combine both into a spray bottle). If you don’t have vinegar you can also use some regular dish soap and water – but vinegar works best for removing stubborn spots.
Spray or wipe areas with the solution and let it soak for about 10 minutes. Now you can start to scrub, and any stubborn messes should scrub away easily.
Make sure to give jar bottoms an extra wipe before placing them back. And take out the drawers so you can give them a rinse in the sink. It’s also important to remove the bottom glass shelf and give it a thorough scrub since a lot of residue can easily collect there.
Wipe and Dry
After you’ve thoroughly scrubbed the contents, shelves and drawers, it helps to grab a separate, clean cloth. Dampen it with water and wipe down everything to remove any residue from the scrubbing. Once everything has been wiped and rinsed, use a dishtowel to dry everything off.
When everything is nice and clean, return the contents and re-organize them – it’s the best time to do so! Make sure that you also wrap up any items that can easily cause a mess.
Wipe the Exterior
When everything is complete, take a look at the exterior of your fridge. Use your sponge to give it a quick scrub to remove any fingerprints and marks. If you have a stainless steel fridge, use a non-streaking cleaner and wipe with the grain.
Now you’re all set. So no matter the situation – whether it’s the in-laws, your mother, or guests – you won’t have to worry about anyone reaching for milk or grabbing for their beer while cringing in the process.
