What Needs Daily Cleaning?
We’ve all been there: you get the call that your parents are dropping in for a surprise visit, and they’re just around the corner. There’s only so much that can be cleaned, folded, scrubbed, and vacuumed in that timespan, but don’t fret. With these simple daily cleaning tasks, even unexpected arrivals will be greeted with a clean, inviting space. So, stock up on your scrub brushes, antibacterial sprays, and gloves, and dig into our list of what needs daily cleaning in your Ottawa apartment.
Wash the Dishes
We all hate tackling the dishes, even with a handy dishwasher. But letting your dishes sit out for hours on end before you decide to address them will not only attract bacteria, but it will also attract bugs. Flies and ants love dirty dishes, and the last thing you want is to find them all over your kitchen. After you finish eating, give them a quick rinse. Food particles will wash away instantly, before they’ve had a chance to set in.
Scrub the Sink
Once you’ve finished washing the dishes or brushing your teeth, give the sink a quick wipe. This will remove leftover food particles and reduce the chances of stains setting in, odours lingering, or bacteria developing.
Wipe the Kitchen Countertops
Spills, food crumbs, and stains all end up on your kitchen countertops. Considering that the kitchen is one of the most frequented rooms in your home, it’s important to give them frequent cleanings throughout the day. A vinegar-water based solution is also great for tackling this area.
Sweep the Floors
Your floors are one of the first things people notice when they enter your home, so ensure they are always clean. Plus, a quick sweep of the floors everyday will remove pet dander and dust which can help reduce those allergy flare-ups.
Clean Up the Bathtub/Shower Floor
After you take a shower, ensure you wipe up the shower or bathtub floor area in and outside of the tub. Giving the tub or shower a clean immediately after using it makes it so much easier to remove any stubborn marks as well. Plus, leaving excess water lying around can allow mould and mildew to grow. Additionally, opening a window or turning on the fan while showering will help with ventilation.
Dust the Nightstand
Your nightstand is the closest surface to your face when you sleep at night. Collected dust will enter your nasal cavity when you inhale, which can also stir up those allergy symptoms and disrupt your sleep. Keep this area clean so you can rest easy.
Clean Kitty Litter/Puppy Pads
If you own a pet, you know how smelly your house can become if you let the kitty litter or puppy pads collect waste. Plus, the particles from their waste isn’t good for your health. A quick daily clean of your pet area will help prevent odours.
Keeping your apartment clean and tidy doesn’t have to be a massive chore! A quick clean of the above areas every day should take no time at all and avert the need for a deep clean down the road.
